Speed up to 40 mph with Bolt electric bicycle

Bolt is a San Francisco-based startup that makes electric motorbikes. The bikes are handmade in a small garage on the edge of town and come with the same type of lithium-ion batteries used in Teslas.

The bolt bicycles can maintain its speed to 20 mph in economy mode and when outside on the city streets, one can switch to the sport mode which will boost its speed to 40 mph. As it is a bicycle it will save the rider from the parking charges and filling up fuel every other time. Added benefit to that, one doesn’t need a license or insurance to ride the bike. The bike costs $ 5,500 with few hundred dollars extra for shipping and handling purposes and can easily be powered up with an app on smartphone or simply by a security code on the bike’s dashboard. The battery is expected to last for 30 miles in the hilly areas and longer in the leveled surfaces but charging the bike while on the run is bit of a challenge. The rider needs to pull out the batteries and charge them inside with a separate adapter which costs about $ 250. The bicycle looks and acts like a motorcycle and differ very little. It can be ordered online but probably the sell has already been closed for 2016, as these bikes are already sold out meeting their high demands.
